"Tackle-It" Tuesday - Spring Break

I keep seeing these cutesy nick names for blog posts, so I’ve decided to name mine.  Since the theme of this blog is ‘living all in’ and I’m a closet football fan (shh...don’t tell anybody) we’re going to have “Tackle-it Tuesdays.”

I like Tuesdays.  First of all, they’re not Mondays. Can I get a witness?
Second, that’s the day I started blogging.

And third (I firmly believe you should have three reasons for everything) it keeps me on a schedule, which gives my Type A personality ‘all the feels.’

They will always be short and sweet.  Mostly because I’m creating these works of genius while my 4 year old blessing regales me with tales of super heroes and snot. But also because, like my (almost) 5 foot self, good things come in small packages.

This week, let’s tackle

Spring Break

My kids are on spring break this week, and I’m excited.  I love having them home.  We ‘stay’cate more than we vacate, so we’ll be local this week.  (Someday when we win the lottery or inherit from an obscure relative, we’ll do the Caribbean on spring break or something.) Meanwhile, I have three (you knew it was going to be three, didn’t you?) tips for surviving a week home with kids that are usually gone.
1.       If they’re used to a schedule, keep them on one.
Not the same one, obviously.  Turn off those alarm clocks.  Take a deep vacation breath.  But, have some structure.  If they know what to expect every day, there’s less potential for boredom or anxiety driven chaos.

2.       Send them outside to play.  A lot.
Numerous studies/articles sing the praises of outside play on growing minds and bodies. My boys love it, and invariably come in focused and refreshed.

3.       Schedule at least one big outing to look forward to
A big family outing makes the week off feel like a vacation…even if you didn’t go anywhere. For us, it’s the zoo.  We bought passes last year, which means low cost ($) for big fun. If you don’t have somewhere in mind, google “free” or “cheap” outings in your state. You might just find your favorite “staycation” destination.

Until next week!  Stay lovely.
